Through the academic portion of the Judicial Fellowship Program, we were given the opportunity to write two research papers exploring any area of judicial administration that interests us. Here is a synopsis of my Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 term papers.

Fall 2023In Fall 2023, I wrote a paper to measure the scalability of self-help centers in the California Courts. I did so via a historical analysis to understand the original purpose of self-help centers in California versus the the case types and populations served today. I was also able to do case study of the San Mateo Superior Court self-help center by tracking useship data and calculating the demand of services versus the supply of resources.

Spring 2024For my Spring 2024 term paper, I examined the merits and cons of remote public access to court proceedings. Since remote access is currently a significant point of discussion in the courts, I was interested in how public access may have been impacted holistically. Through theories and research on the history of public access and a contemporary analysis of remote access in the Bay Area courts, I suggested a course of action on how to respond to remote public access requests.
